Doctors for Clean Air was launched with 30 Doctors who attended the launch event. Dr. Kumar, in his presentation spoke about the Health Ill-effects of Air Pollution and the present situation of Air Pollution in our country. Dr. Papa Clean Air Champion from Tamil Nadu spoke about their experience with Air Pollution and Low-Cost Monitoring.

The discussions amongst the participating Doctors were rich and powerful. We now have requests from Salem, Cuddalore, Coimbatore and Pondicherry for a district level launches and all these districts have also committed to involved neighbouring districts, for example – Salem will also involve Dharmapuri, Erode and Namakkal. Cuddalore and Pondicherry will involve Nagapattinam and Kariakal and Coimbatore will involve Nilgiris, Theni and Dindigal, districts.

As part of DFCA launch the team also visited the North Chennai – Ennore – regions impacted by coal fired thermal power plants. DFCA will be conducting a health camp in Seppakkam village and then strategizing about their next steps in advancing the community demand of relocation from the vicinity of fly ash ponds to a cleaner environment.
