E-BUS i.e. Endobronchial ultrasound is a specialised type of bronchoscopy in which an ultrasound probe is putted at the tip of the bronchoscope. With this, you not only see inside the air passages but can also do ultrasound at the same time to detect and localise abnormalities like glands, nodules or tumours etc in the surrounding area. These abnormalities can be biopsied under real time ultrasound control for accurate diagnosis. In our country, with a large load of glands in the chest, this test helps in achieving tissue diagnosis with minimal discomfort and risk to the patient. The same procedure is also being utilised for staging of lung cancer patients. E-Bus has proved to be an invaluable tool in the management of chest disease patients.
