It is very essential to be able to identify signs/symptoms of Lung Diseases for early identification and treatment of diseases like COPD, Asthma, Lung Cancer etc.

Common Symptoms of Lung Diseases

Shortness of Breath

Often known as dyspnea, it is described as an intense tightening of chest, air hunger or a feeling of suffocation.

Wheezing

Wheezing is high pitched whistling sound made while breathing, often associated with difficulty in breathing. Wheezing may occur during breathing in (inspiration) or breathing out (expiration).

Coughing up Blood / Blood in Sputum

Appearance of blood in sputum can be alarming, whether is small in amount or large. The medical term of coughing up blood is hemoptysis. The seriousness of the condition is dependent on the amount of blood being coughed out and the length of time the blood is being coughed out. It is a crucial symptom and should never be neglected.

In case you see any of the following symptoms visit a doctor immediately–

  • Start coughing after a fall or injury.
  • Coughing up blood in sputum any time and in any time and in any amount.
  • Experience chest pain, dizziness, fever or shortness of breath.

Chest Pain

Chest pain can happen due to multiple reasons including cardiac reasons. However, it is important to differentiate the cause of chest pain.

Chest pain is one of the most frequent symptoms of Lung Diseases, along with tightness of chest, shortness of breath etc.

Potential Underlying Causes

  • Tuberculosis
  • Lung Cancer
  • Pneumonia and any other infection
  • Injuries to the arteries in the lungs
  • Inhalation of foreign particles
  • Blood clot in the Lungs
